• Slit lamp ophthalmoscopy uses a specialized microscope that allows Dr. Zervas to evaluate the cornea, conjunctiva and other external and internal structures of the eye.
• Indirect ophthalmoscopy uses a head-mounted instrument that gives a broad view of the vitreous and retina and allows examination out to the far periphery of the retina.
• Optical coherence tomography (OCT) uses a light beam to create a high-resolution cross-sectional image of the retina.
• Fundus photography uses specialized film and digital cameras to document abnormalities in the retina. It is important in following the progress of certain retinal diseases and to monitor treatment.
• Visual field or perimetry testing measures the ability of your eye to see straight ahead and to the side (peripheral vision). During a visual field test, one eye is temporarily covered and the patient is asked to look straight ahead at a fixed space and press a button when a light is seen. The visual field examination detects "blind spots" that may be caused by diseases of the retina.
• Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP) uses a pain-free, non-invasive way to objectively measure the function of your entire vision system.
• Electroretinography (ERG) is used to detect abnormal function of the retina (the light-detecting portion of the eye).
• Tear Film Analyzer is used as a fast, objective, and non-invasive way to measure vision fluctuation caused by dry eye disease.
• Color Vision Testing uses a tablet to administer a color perception test that diagnoses visual color deficiencies.
